JOSLYN JAMES in CONVERSATION with GODDESS GRACE

She doesn’t need an introduction—her presence in the adult industry is both undeniable and entirely on her own terms.

One of the adult industry’s most celebrated stars opens up about her journey from a small town to becoming a household name. We explore the delicate balance between vulnerability and control, fame and anonymity, truth and performance, as the lines between the personal and the public blur. Joslyn provides a window into the contradictions of a life lived in full view—where every moment is an act of both revelation and reinvention.

How did you first enter the adult industry?

JOSLYN JAMES

I was introduced to the adult industry when I was living in Seattle. I started working at a peep show at Deja Vu in downtown Seattle. It was fascinating to me. I’ve always admired people in the adult industry—the confidence, independence, freedom, and liberty they exude. Getting into the industry helped me let go of my own inhibitions and insecurities. Growing up in a small village, if you enjoyed sex or anything like that, you were seen as a “tart” or a “hussy,” especially as a woman. To embrace your sexuality was frowned upon. Over the years, I’ve embraced and loved how these cultural attitudes are changing, at least in some places. Seeing women gain more freedom is beautiful.

I love how you've embraced those values and made them your own. It's so empowering to see how you entered the industry and drew strength from others within it. Were there any challenges you faced when you first entered the adult industry?

When I first entered the industry, I was 27 and only had about five small tattoos. One agent questioned me, saying, "Aren't you kind of old?" I was 27, and he was acting like I was 77! He also mentioned my tattoos and seemed uncertain about me. But then another agency reached out to me and took me under their wing, which helped me truly be myself. I entered the industry right when the MILF category started picking up. At the time, the "barely legal" look was popular, but that’s just a phase, like fashion trends. Everything goes in waves, and now it's the MILF era. It’s crazy to see how much the industry has evolved. I came in at 27, with a few tattoos, and now there are performers of all ages and body types, and many have body modifications. Some people even enter the industry later in life, which I love because I don't think people at 18, 19, or 20 truly understand what they’re getting into when they join the sex industry. It's hard for them to fully grasp, especially if it's their first job and they’re suddenly making a lot of money. It’s like being drafted for a sports career at a young age—fast fame, fast money.
